After getting the installation file from FreeBSD.org, we begin the installation process:
First, we see the bootloader menu. On the first option hit Enter, in order to enter other options press Space to pause the bootloader and then navigate between them by using arrow keys on your keyboard or by entering their number.
This step includes Welcome screen, we choose Install and hit Enter.
Choose your Keymap, you can select other options by navigating to them and hitting Space on your keyboard and then hit Enter.
Choose your hostname.
Choose the distribution sets you’d like to install, note that these components are optional.
Choosing our partitioning method. Here we use automatic partitioning with ZFS filesystem.
A ZFS pool has been created, in this step we can configure our ZFS pool. After you’re finished you should select >>> Install and hit Enter.
We select our Virtual Device type, note that Auto ZFS method only supports creation of one vdev (virtula device) at this time. We choose Stripe with zero redundancy, which means you’ll lose access to your pool's data indefinitely once the disk stops from working.
Choose your disk.
Choose Yes, this will delete the whole data on your disk.
Fetching distribution files.
Extracting distribution files.
We choose the root password.
Select a network interface to configure for your use.
Configure to use IPv4.
If your network supports DHCP choose Yes to configure your inteface automatically.
Set up DNS.
Choose your Region and Time Zone:
Time & Date configuration:
At this point we can choose which services to start at boot, we enable sshd, ntpd (setting time with NTP server over Internet) to start on boot.
System Hardening: Read about these options carefully before choosing each one of them to prevent any possible difficulty in future! Note that selecting them is optional.
In these steps we add a user account to our system:
Choose your username and enter your Full name, leave Uid and Login group at their default values by hitting Enter. For the next question you should enter
wheel in response if you want to add root privilege to your newly created user, otherwise you should later add your user to group wheel in
Choose your shell environment.
For next questions hit Enter. Choose a password and enter it.
In response to Lock out the account after creation? hit Enter for its default value. Now you’re finished setting up your new user, therefore type
yes in response to OK?
Then you’ll be asked about creating another user account.
Final Configuration: Now we’ve done all the required configurations, at this point you’re able to change or modify your previous configurations and afterwards choose Exit to apply configurations.
You’ll be asked for manual configurations. If you choose Yes you'll be redirected to a shell to make your final modifications manually.
Your Installation is complete now, choose Reboot to enter your system. Please remove insatllation media to prevent your machine from booting from Installer.
Congratulations! Your system is now up and ready to use.
